Maybe im set in my RP ways, but really not liking the new Gnome. They are an awesome new race, but definitely not what I was expect as a Gnome in anyway. It is somewhat of a disapointment, as I do tend to favor playing Gnomes, but im leaning to strange tree dwelling Halflings. Weird that they are in trees and not in a shire or something, but at the very least they still seem very Hobbity at heart.
As a person who has always disliked gnomes, i do really enjoy this invisioning. I know it is not the typical racial view of a gnome, but the RP element of it can be. I see the clockwork in their bodies. I can hear the puns all metalic whisping out of their shells.
I can understand the may disappointed views, also. It would be the same as having six foot tall drawfs. They might still sound Scottish, but should they be able to block the sun?
Amsai said: I'm cool with Spaceships. I've never had a problem with a Sci Fantasy take. Like maybe it is a floating city but it works more like magi-tech from FF series or like Dwemer Tech from ES series. I have nothing against pure high fantasy. I love it. But I like when there is a small amount a magical tech or steam punk type stuff thrown in as well. Not going crazy with it but just a small bit here and there.
I tend to like that too, used to like Fallout New Vegas and prior games in the series. And I used to play StarWars Galaxies back in the day. Do like my sci-fi/fantasy etc. :)

Skyhold is a floating city so it is nowhere on the map. It is instead high above the world. They have not yet said how exactly we will travel to and from there.
Tottally - but why stop there? I think we could have even FRESHER Gnomes by making them bears.
Of course we'll have to think of a different name for bears.. How about Tolls?
Mod Edit: Image removed as per guidelines.
I've never been a big fan of the traditional take on Trolls. This reinterpretation has me interested in this race for the first time.

This .
In a standard Pizzeria you usually get a standard looking and tasting Pizza. So if you want a Pizza you generally go to a Pizzeria . If the Pizza looked and tasted like Ice Cream (and regardless whether you like Ice Cream or not), you would be legitimely angry on the Pizzeria owner because if you wanted an Ice Cream you would go to an Ice Cream shop .
Using names of well known and established things for other things which are obviously completely different is rarely a good idea and always leads to misunderstandings ;)
Skyhold is not a "spaceship"... It is a floating PRISON that was made for some of the old, regular Gnomes you are all so upset about being different now.
Read their lore, it tells of their change from our known and loved traditional Gnomes, into their new "form".
"The Prophain were exiled into a floating prison known as the Skyhold, fated to circle Elos til she consumed them. This airborne expanse was built of spent Resivore, though the Archanos critically misunderstood that Resivore could be infused anew. For years the Prophain painstakingly extracted the resource, constructing a pillar within the heart of the Skyhold of pure Resivore. Therein they stored a measure of Elos Fire. Yet as they labored in secret, the Archanos worked ever more madly to draw ethereal power from the star. To this end they constructed spires of pure Resivore, aiming the immense towers directly at Elos, sapping power beyond the natural limits the star freely gave."
then later
"The gorge of her energy began to weaken Elos, loosing the bonds of her power in devastating surges. As her unbridled rays struck the inner crust, many of the Gnomes were consumed. Yet the Skyhold, built to lock the Prophain away until death, bore well against the lashes of Elos for a time. When a giant hole was struck straight through the crusts of Stormona, the exiled Gnomes piloted the structure through it, escaping to the quiet atmosphere of their ancestors. Yet survival had not been perfect. As the bristling energy in the Resivore continued to sift through the Skyhold, a dire conclusion was reached by the Gnomes: they must abandon their mortal flesh or perish.
At first, I was not sure what to think of the "new" Gnome "look". Then after reading all the lore and available information on them and their journey into Terminus, I fell in love with them and their incredible backstory and what they went through to get here and survive!
Gnomes and Dark Myr, along with the Skar have been through tremendous and horrific tragedies just to find themselves placed in a brand new world/dimension. One filled with question, worry, danger and the constant struggle for survival.
I for one, happen to be a fan of the new idea and look of them.
@ "Beefcake"
Skyhold, floats above "WhiteThaw" Whitethaw will be where the Dwarves start out, in an area/continent that is not yet released on Pantheons Atlas/Map...
It would appear (nobody actually knows for sure yet) that there is still a missing continent to be revealed for us. One, covered in snow (as the available lore suggests)
Hello Everyone!!!
I've kinda sorta read into the lore and it's good.
I just think this is some fluff that maybe a dungeon could revolve around and if the dungeon is successful maybe something later?
I don't know, hard critic and I'm not hating on the character designs or the lore or anything like that whatsoever.
Just maybe PC gnomes can be flesh and blood and some sort of NPC faction of gnomes can be chromatically/mechanically/ethereally imbued with all of that great lore that's already had so much diligent thought go into.
I'm not a writer or any sort of programmer so I'm not trying to tell you how to do your thing. Hopefully I'm not the only one that thinks this way but reading this thread: I am.
Anyways,..
Maybe I'm wrong:
Like on the other hand now you have devils, mermaids and cyborgs all in a high fantasy/swordnsorcery setting right at launch and that's kinda a really unique setting in itself.
Also not a fan of the complexity of multiple pools and sources of mana.
That opinion belongs somewhere else.
Sorry to only tell you what I don't like, that isn't fair.
What really hits home about eq is its chaotic simplicity and how expendable and vulnurable the player truly is in this dangerous world.
Anyways this is about gnomes in protf not eq, and I dont like the PC ones the way you have them planned. It's giving me a 'beyond flesh and bone life' that I think should be restricted from the players character option.
Best regards!
Take it as a grain of salt!
