Change my mind. Sitting during combat is inefficient.

If you are sitting for mana regen during combat you are doing it wrong, change my mind.

Perhaps this was correct during EQ1 due to various mechanical differences, but during my play through of this game during seasons (maybe this has changed, correct me if it has), of both the cleric and shaman, there was an ability acquired at some point that gave you back 25% of your mana in exchange for 1000 readiness. But here's the rub, readiness can only be obtained by applying physical damage. i.e. swinging your mace, stabbing with your spear, etc.

Your mana regen rate while sitting is zero. Once you have the resting buff, your regen rate is maybe like 1 point (not including any enchanter buffs). The amount regenerated during combat is so small you will be lucky to get off one more baby heal before the fights over, so why sit? This time is better spent acquiring more readiness in the hopes you can proc your mana regen buff repeatedly in a single combat.

Am I wrong? If I am, what am I missing? Has this buff been removed or changed? I see so many healers and other casters sitting during combat that it puzzles me.

If I am not wrong, then the game as designed does not encourage sitting, but rather is encouraging everyone to be standing and active during combat, not just the melee's. The game is designed to be more 'active' for all classes.

The abilities are still there, but have been changed to simple cooldown (1:30 min). So, technically you don't need to melee to use them. It's still benefical IMO, since even if healer melee damage isn't great, it's still helping to kill the opponent.

Sitting down during combat gives rested state, but the regeneration is much lower than outside combat. This can be neccessary at times, but as you said, in most situations it's better to fight, and rest after combat ends.

Ah ok, yeah I remember them being like 30 seconds.  Still, even at 1:30, I think you are probably better off building more readiness for the next combat at least until the bar is full and then sitting.  Or as you said, doing even marginal dps helps more than the negligible mana you are going to regen while sitting during combat.

Perhaps this will change, or scales differently at higher levels.  But at least at lower levels the mana regen during combat simply isn't worth it IMHO.

I forgot to mention, clerics (and I think shaman too) don't have abilities using readiness anymore (unless at higher levels?). We still have a readiness bar, but currently it isn't used. Not sure what the plan is here.

It's dependent on your class, what level of gear your tank has, the competency of the group, yadda yadda, but yes, sitting in combat sometimes is absolutely a requirement, sometimes, it's not - simple as that.

    Edit for:

    (As a Cleric, solo healing)

Level 4 Tank, brand new, fighting Thugs in Cloth = Sitting a lot. Like mostly.

Level 4 Twink Tank wearing some chain fighting same mobs = You decide.

Don't be blindsided thinking all things are equal ":)

-But saying 'sitting doesn't matter' is kind of like thinking "Inches don't matter" in a Football Game.
