Looking forward to early access we seem to be launching with most of the first continent completed. So will the other two continents just be unlocked later or abandoned? The project has always seems much bigger then was realistic. at launch 3 contintents was excessive hopefully they are far enough ahead to keep players excited with a stream of new planned content.
My guess is that most of the world will be released after the next 2 year Early Access ahead of the 1.0 launch. Surely, some of the other areas that do no launch will either be expansions or added as future content. My understanding is that the world intended to be launched will be upon us by the 1.0 launch in 2 years. Also, the races, classes and other features should be released by 1.0....if I am understanding the messaging about all of this. I could be completely and utterly out of mind too...but I don't think so, lol. I think a lot more is near the done stage than we think and is being fine tuned prior to the players getting their hands on it. They are giving us enough content to get us to 40 and experience most of what they are envisioning for us to enjoy and test for them. We are the fine tuning guinea pigs, lol. I have faith in them to deliver what they promise. They have put hard deadlines and goals out there. You don't do that if you are not confident....I hope, lol.
Yup, from what I have read and seen in dev streams and the like, is that the other continents are still planned for 1.0 and I also agree with Rhazaghul that all indications are that there are still two years of development and content creation to come.
Don't forget that recently VR have still been concentrating on getting game mechanics into play and content has always been created to support that, rather than create the content first. As VR transition from system programming to content building, I believe we will be pleasantly surprised at how much content will be produced.
As well as building the framework for the game play we will be using, they have also built a lot of tools that will allow VR to easily create and change the game world itself. This has been very evident from Joppa's twitch streams. As a guess (being a commercial programmer since I was 20, many moons ago), they are going to continue coding on system stuff for another 6 to 12 months but will be transitioning to content creation for the rest of the period (how ever long it is) to 1.0. There will be new content throughout the next 2 years, but it will significantly ramp up for 1.0. We wont see it all (of course), because they will still want to surprise their pool of testers.
But, this is all a guess. I have no insider knowledge except my professional experience, so take this with a big pinch of salt.
It doesn't get mentioned often, but occasionally Joppa gets asked if Panth still plans to launch with 3 continents. I don't have an exact date, but somewhere in the last 2 years was the most recent time I heard him respond. It had not changed. "Yes, 3 continents - 3 races on each - at launch."
Could that change? Of course. Has it changed? Not to my knowledge.
