I just found out Amazon Studios gave people exclusive cosmetics if they watched their streams on twitch.

I didnt know about this, so its horrible, but mostly i just hate exclusive items, missing out of any ounce of content through means beyond your control is horrible for most gamers.

Your my main MMO so id be more annoyed if you did this, please dont...

But if you ever do, email me seven times and phone me so i dont miss out.

Do the pledge exclusive items not count?

@Byproducts, I suppose so for any future gamers, but for us here now there has been years to buy them.
I just hope the cosmetics get sold separately for example the blood rose cosmetics, I can't but an entire new pledge when I just want like 3 cosmetics from it.

I personally hope they don't. That would mean a cash shop for one (a touchy subject for many,) and would also mean people who backed the game early don't really get anything for it other than testing privileges.

Youre never intended to get every item or even most items in an MMO though...

@Gintoki88 which is very sad, anyone willing to put in the effort should be able to earn everything a mmo has to offer, now or 20 years later.

Most of us are collectors after all.

I think they already plan to sell cosmetics individually, those who backed the game gets tons of benefits beyond cosmetics.

It's an interesting idea to think about.  I'm pretty sure I fundamentally disagree with the idea, but not that strongly.  There are just so many things in life where a certain number of people get the thing and no one else does.  "The first 100 customers" "while supplies last" "this item is now discontinued" etc.

As a collector, you must understand the idea of limited inventory.  That's what makes colletibles so collectible, right?

If you put in the appropriate amount of time and effort, why should you not be able to obtain every item (or most items) in the game?  All those items are available, they exist for people to obtain. You just need the correct combination of pieces (class, level, faction, skill, time) to get it.  I, as a Shaman, clearly can't get an item which only comes from a quest only Wizards can get and complete.  But I, the person, can then play a wizard and work my way up to that point to get that item.   So yes, while a single class cannot obtain every, or most, items in the game, the person should definitely be able to do it.

Not saying you cant if you try hard enough, just that its not really expected to happen.

Mostly that going into an mmo with this mind set always ends in disappointment.

Are you saying that we should be able to obtain any item or we should be able to obtain every item?

I can understand both sides you should be able to get everything right? but then what makes something special when not everyone can get it. if its not special is it worth it. I can understand both schools of thought i would say that perhaps a vast majority should be able to get maybe 95-99 percent but then perhaps their should be exclusivity in some things. Such as being at a special event and getting a collectible from that. You dont have to have everything and in fact unless you dedicate a lot of time you wont get it. Also having everything means that naturally most things wont mean anything to you at least thats how i feel. There was a story about a king who supposedly had everything he entered some sort of competition I forget the details but he challenged someone to find something he didnt have it came down to a very old well seasoned pot. You see to the king his possesions meant nothing because he had everything but to the challenger this pot was special it had been in the family for a very long time so having something be special can be a prized possesion.

I don't mind exclusive items in the world. In fact, I think that exclusive items can enhance a player's experience by promoting a sense of accomplishment and adding an air of prestige. I would be cool with seeing "seasonal" rewards tied to PVP, clearing a raid before it becomes a cakewalk or other "seasonal" events. I also wouldn't mind seeing in-game promotional events offering exclusive rewards, kind of like how WoW has pre-expansion events. Basically, I am fine with any exclusive item unlocked through gameplay.

I am also ok with collector editions offering exclusive in-game items (mounts, pets, cosmetic armor sets, housing items...ect), as long as these items don't break the game.

I am not ok with in-game exclusive items being placed temporarily on an in-game store as a limited-time purchase. Situations like this always end up feeling like a cash grab, and they never leave a good impression. When it comes to external promotional events offering in-game exclusives, it really depends, but typically I don't like them. I would much rather see in-game exclusives be tied into gameplay.

Exclusive items from in game events; sure.

Exclusive items from in world events once the game has launched; nah. Stating post launch due to pledge items effectively being in world exclusive (right?).

For unique items, I see the issue as consistency.

If there is going to be an event, with unique and never-again seen items then such events would have to happen consistently in perpetuity, and possibly be different everyn time.

I hope not.  What's the point in a pledge having items that it gives if anyone can buy them 5 years after release if they have a big enough bank account?

    .

Me personally, I am okay with some timed exclusive items, but everything exclusive should be THROUGH/IN THE GAME ITSELF.  For example, maybe you have a one-time event at an expansion with some exclusive things you can only get then.  That's fine with me.  But if it's the expansion is coming out but you have to watch someone's stream or buy some sports drink or some other OUTSIDE OF THE GAME bullcrap to get it, that's a lot iffier, imo.  While some people love promotions and partnerships, and they can be okay, it always feelsbad to have to do irl things to get in game stuff.  Especially when there's only one way to get it "buy this specific flavor of this specific brand that you may not like".  I remember WoW had a red and blue pet (Horde coloration and Alliance coloration) that were tied to you buying one of two flavors of Mountain Dew.  Firstly, I can't stand Mountain Dew at the best of times.  Secondly, they were limited run flavors anyway, I think, so even if I DID like them, I couldn't like them for long.  Thirdly, you had to drink (or at least buy) each in order to get both.  They could easily have done "buy any flavor of Mountain Dew", or even better "any flavor PepsiCo product" if they were going down that line.

So that's like...three strikes against that kind of promotion.

IF promotions are done, they should be a wide net.  I get the idea for the promoting product is to get people to try their stuff, but if people don't like those specific items, they have buy them anyway or miss out, which is just dumb.

...especially since all items should be available IN GAME anyway.

    .

I also like yearly timed exclusive things.  I remember for years in WoW they had a new Brewfest Stein (a wieldable "mace", but it was a bear mug with an on use that you could drink from) every year as part of the Brewfest (Octoberfest) event in game.  It happened every year, and from 2007 to 2011 or so, it was "20XX Brewfest Stein" and had a different color icon and visible model for yeah year.  One was a mug with a pink liquid, one had a blue liquid, green, etc etc.  This was neat to me since it let me have an in-game record of how long each of my characters had been in the game.  Sadly, they stopped doing it at some point and just gave the same generic reward each year with a high level trinket or whatever from the event boss that was "meh" level of whatever the current cap was.  It basically went from "Oh yeah, I want to do X event this year for the Y year item" to "eh...there's really no point in bothering with it this year."

    .

Short version is I don't mind - and actually like - timed exclusive items as long as they're sparringly done, involve either (a) major events OR (b) yearly incrementing events, and as long as they're IN GAME things/crossovers/etc, not OUT OF GAME things like promotionals that force you to buy something you'd never touch in a store otherwise.

Also: I'm oposed to making pledge exclusive things on the store - ever.  If you want those specific things, buy that pledge, like everyone else who bought that pledge did.  If they don't mean that much to you, live without them?

There are already going to be some "exclusive" items.  For instance, there will be special skills and spells that you can only obtain by doing certain things, such as exploring.  That makes them exclusive to the people willing to do that.  Exclusive doesn't necessarily mean "only one person will get this".  It can mean, "Only people that do this can get it."

I saw a sword with an obsidian-inlaid hilt that said it is possible to fix the broken blade and reforge the sword. It was an item found after killing a boss in a dungeon, which, in this case, is also exclusive. Remotely fascinating, I am tempted to explore what other mysteries this land has to offer.
