Aiming during combat

I noticed the following skill in the Ranger class section:

    Silent Arrow

"A carefully aimed shot that impales an enemy, dealing high Physical damage. If the enemy is under the effect of your traps, Silent Arrow will critically hit. This ability can be manually aimed for increased damage."

Do you guys think some of the other classes will have manually aimed skills?  The Ranger shot was the only one I could find from the class pages.  Seems weird to randomly have it when no other classes (Wizard for example) have the same mechanic.

I would think all of the casters and throwing weapon classes would have something similar.

It seems a weird thing to have at all in an otherwise tactically paced MMORPG.  Not sure about it, but am willing to see how it plays out.

It would seem further weird for it just to be a Ranger option and just to be one of their skills, but, as I say, it seems weird to me in essence so which classes get it on which skills isn't going to make much sense.

    Yes, exactly!

We're on the same boat brother!

But I also agree it should be utilized across certain classes for balance.

This is the only ability with a "manual" aim mechanic that we know about.

It always seemed odd.  Like it didn't fit in a tab targeting, slow pace of combat game like Pantheon.

My hope is this idea is pushed until post release.  We are over 7 years in and this is the type of thing that is not essential.

There are also the ground targeting skills that are manually aimed. Joppa mentioned them in regards to the newer mesh on the terrain that now they go up inclines correctly and stuff. There is I think a wizard AE and there is the druid stuff. Not sure if the updated class pages still list them. Also objects like rope ladders and bridges could possibly be manually targeted?

Or it's just a description of what your character is doing when using the skill and isn't intended to describe what the player does mechanically to use it. Skills need to be worded very carefully to avoid players misconstruing flavor text for how an ability is actually used. Many games are bad at this and it's one of the reasons I hate picking abilities based on their descriptions.

That's true Counter but in regards to the ground targeted he specifically mentioned it in a stream and showed the red outline of where something would land. The druid ones sounded kind of tricky to me to use in the descriptions. It was like I. The latest stream Baz dropping his recall point for walk of the ages or whichever one that is.

There was a long discussion about this mechanic a few months ago on discord.

Targeting an area because there is no specific target to tab to is very different from this mechanic that automatically changes the player out of third person view into some kind of manual aim/targeting reticle.  This 1 skill is unique and we haven't heard of anything else with this mechanic.

Oh yea fair enough philo, I was kinda stuck on the manual part but yea auto in to first person shooter mode is certainly extreme compared to ground targeting an AE or spawning your tree. Oh rogue traps too are outside of the tab target system hehe. Anyway I can't think of any other class a targeting reticle makes sense for, wizard fireball? xp

IMHO it may be okay to have 1 unique skill that goes FPS mode seeing as ranger is shooting an arrow. It could be a fun flavor. Then again I'm not crazy about the idea, if I want to play an FPS I will play one, not a tab target MMO..

So the full text of the ability's description before the website change was this

"A carefully aimed shot that inflicts heavy damage to your enemy. If your enemy is currently caught in a trap, this ability will critically hit. Additionally, Silent Arrow will inflict bonus damage if outdoors. Silent Arrow is only usable out of combat. (Manually Aimed. If in 3rd person view, activating this ability will move the camera into an over-the-shoulder perspective. 1st person view will not be affected.)"

There's no telling what they are intending at this point, but from all I've read I think this could turn out to be a 'flavor' addition that lets one increase damage - maybe by taking longer to shoot, or choosing where on the target's body one aims - but doesn't necessarily require the player to have any FPS, hand-eye skill to accomplish.

As a future Ranger who hopes to be more of an Archer than a Melee, I'm looking forward to finding out!

To respond to the OP's question, no I don't think we'll see a bunch of similiar stuff for other DPS classes. Whatever this turns out to be, I think it's just an interesting one-off tidbit for the Rangers.

I would be fine if this stayed as a ranger only skill, the other classes should get their own unique skills.
