Server breakdown

Hi folks. First post. I played Asassin, my monk, in EQ hardcore (70+ hours a week for years) and am excited to play this when it's ready.

What I'm wondering is this. Will there be somewhere we will be able to see how many of each class are online at any given point?

Where I'm going with this is.... In EQ I loved my monk and by default will play a monk here. But there ALWAYS was a shortage of clerics, and just as rare shaman.  Which has me wondering if I shouldn't play one of those two classes just out of sheer demand.

I personally prefer a class that's highly needed (so finding a group is easy)  And a rare version of that class (so I don't have to fight as much for gear)

I remember logging onto the Tarew Marr server and it told me exactly how many people were on that server. I'm just wondering if that couldn't be take a step further and provide a class breakdown.

Example if I see 326 monks on, 114 clerics, and 34 shaman. I might be more inclined to make a shaman or cleric main.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Allan

It's a good question.  We'll probably have an idea of class popularity through polls if nothing else.  I look forward to VR's answer on this type of in-game transparency.

It will be an interesting reply, certainly because class abilities or playstyles are not as strictly bound to the class itself as it is in other games. For example; There are many classes that manage CC to certain degree or in one shape or form. And depending of the groupsetup there might not be a need for a cleric specifically but rather a healer or another debuffer instead.  This would not be shown by use of a serverbreak down listing as you log in.

To get an idea of class population numbers you could look at the race/class chart to kinda determine what classes will be most rare. Personally I think the cleric will have the lowest population due to how few races can be that class.

I really hope we have, at the very least, a general idea of how populated a server is because, aside from specific rule-sets, server population is how I pick which one I will use.

As far as a specific breakdown of classes, races, etc, I'm 100% in support of that. I like picking uncommon combos. And a shortage of a specific role could definitely be the deciding factor in which toon I log in on.

They may or may not have that function like in Everquest where you can do a quick '/who Cleric all' or '/who Cleric 40 50 all'. The issue is, it doesn't capture Roleplayers or Anonymous players. We'll have to see what they plan in Pantheon. As of now we only have polling to go by which gives the best number for how the classes and archetypes will look. I took each of the polls and compiled them for the playerbase as I use it not just for raw values and aggregate but also for behavioral predictive analysis. This way I will know generally how the shift will occur before it does IF it does.

    Enjoy.

You think just like me. I am always happy to fill in those spots that are less popular. Let's hope there is a class break down.

I think it would be awesome to have a server break down of classes and population numbers  (while keeping names anonymous of course). I think it is really good to have the ability to check and see what classes are in short supply/underplayed in the higher end content. I know that most games implement a /who function that can be used but these are typically limited to about 50 names and aren't a great representation of the overall class population.

I will say that in general healers and tanks are always among the lower class populations. Based on the current class matrix which has been changed internally but hasn't been updated clerics, paladins and rangers have the least amount of racial options available to them and are probably going to take a hit population-wise because of that.

I would like to see lots of interesting server stats given out, yeah. You know well that when a server says "recommended" it might well mean "poorly populated" and when a server says "full" it might still be "well populated, but desperate for clerics".

Or if they devs want to keep control over the population, they could at least recommend a server *intelligently* and *after* you have chosen your race and class and answered a small survey about the kind of player you are.
